Areas of strength

Our teaching team is experienced and dedicated. We have two learning teams, which plan co-operatively and support each other well.
Our recent professional development in assessment has seen our school implement valuable initiatives including Portfolio Books, Computerised Student Report forms, separate reporting on Essential Skills and structured user friendly student learning outcomes.
The staff have also been involved in comprehensive training in ICT.
Tinwald School has participated in the ‘Literacy Enhancement’ Programme during 2002 and 2003 – with a whole staff focus on our school reading programmes.
In 2004 the Senior Team completed the Arts Curriculum Contract while the Junior Team completed the Numeracy Project. In 2005, the Senior Team (Apollo) is involved in the Numeracy Project while Junior Syndicate (Gemini) is on the Arts Curriculum Contract.
Tinwald School is also part of a Mid Canterbury cluster who is currently exploring the Quality Schools option for 2006-2008.
The Tinwald School Board of Trustees are extremely supportive, particularly when financing programmes/activities that will benefit the children.
The parents of Tinwald School support the school in a variety of ways. We have a strong PR Team (PTA) and attendance at school events is always impressive.
As a staff we ensure that we take time to relax together and enjoy each other’s company.
