Tinwald area

Tinwald is a Contributing Primary School (Year 0-6) with a current grading roll of 231 children. The children come from the urban suburb of Tinwald and the surrounding rural area.

Tinwald is situated at the southern side of Ashburton, a town with a population of approximately 16,000. Ashburton is a rural support town and supports extensive areas of cropping and livestock farming. In recent years there has been an increase in dairy farming. Local business, and therefore the wider community, is strongly influenced by trends in farming, but generally the local population has experienced growth with a number of new businesses attracted to the town recently.

Tourism is an attraction, with Mt Hutt ski-field less that an hour away from Ashburton. Ashburton is centrally located only 60 minutes from Christchurch and 50 minutes from Timaru.
